Patience

God is Patient

  • Pray.
  • Review the memory verse.
  • Ask, “What are some things you have to wait on in order for them to happen? Do you like for things to happen right away, or do you enjoy waiting for them?”
  • Patience, like all the fruits of the Spirit, will grow in our lives as we spend time in God’s Word, in prayer, and in practicing to be patient.
  • Ask, “What does it mean to be patient? What is the opposite of being patient? Are you a patient person?”
  • Discuss what it means to be patient. If you have a dictionary, look up the word patience. Older kids can use a thesaurus to write down synonyms. I once heard someone say, “Patience is being happy to wait.” They would say that simple phrase to their young children as a reminder during times that patience was needed.
  • Read or summarize Exodus 32:1-11, 14 and Exodus 32:19-20.
  • Ask, “Did the Israelites show patience or impatience as they waited for Moses to return from the mountain? Do you ever feel like the Israelites-like things are taking too long, and you just want to make things happen in your own timing?”
  • Read Exodus 34:1-7a. Focusing on verse 6-7a.
  • Ask, “Did God show patience or impatience as He dealt with the Israelites? What are some words in these verses that describe God’s character-what He is like?”
  • God is patient, and He wants us to be patient too.
