Memory Verse
“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.'” Matthew 28:18
Day 1-John’s Vision of Jesus
- Pray.
- Practice the memory verse.
- Explain that after Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples-those who followed Jesus and trusted in Him as their Savior and Lord-received the Holy Spirit. They began to tell others what Jesus had taught them and what they had seen (Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection). People who rejected Jesus as Lord began to persecute and even kill these “Christians”. John, Jesus’ disciple, was the last of the 12 apostles to survive. He was an old man and had been banished to a small, barren, rocky island because he kept on preaching the gospel-the Good News about salvation through Jesus.
- While on this island, God gave John a “revelation”-He revealed to John what is to come. Jesus will reign in glory.
- Read Revelation 1:5-8.
- What did we read about Jesus?
- Explain that Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet (like A and Z). The alphabet can be arranged in all sorts of combinations to form words that express all knowledge. Jesus is the ultimate source of knowledge and wisdom. (Colossians 2:3) Nothing in all of creation is outside his knowledge or understanding.
- Jesus is the Almighty One. What does Almighty mean? He has all might, supreme power, ultimate control.
- Read Revelation 1:9-19.
- What did Christ tell John? (verses 17-18)
- What is God teaching you from what we read today?
Day 2-The Lamb is Worthy
- Pray.
- Practice the memory verse.
- Read Revelation 4:1-2.
- Who is the One sitting on the throne? God.
- Read Revelation 5:1-5.
- Who does it sound like the angel is talking about?
- Read Revelation 5:6-10.
- The angel earlier described a Lion, but when David turns, He sees a Lamb.
- Who fits that description: a fierce and strong Lion, but also a gentle (yet powerful) and pure Lamb?
- Why was the Lamb the One worthy to break the seals of the book? (verses 5, 9)
- The Lamb is Jesus. He shed His blood, He paid the price, and was the perfect, sinless sacrifice that took away our sins. (John 1:29, Isaiah 53:7, 1 Peter 1:18-19)
- Read Revelation 5:11-13.
- What were the angels and all created things saying about Him? What were they doing?
- How will you praise the Lamb today?
- Note to Parents: My NASB MacArthur Study Bible says that the book this chapter refers to is “almost certainly a deed-the title deed to the earth.” The way it is described is “typical of various kinds of contracts in the ancient world…The inside of the scroll contained all the details of the contract, and the outside-or back-contained a summary of the document.” There is so much to learn about the book and these 7 seals (I, personally, need to spend a lot more time studying these.), but I want to spend this week focusing on Jesus, the Lamb.
Day 3-He Will Judge and Wage War
- Pray.
- Practice the memory verse.
- The Bible tells us in 2 Peter 3:9 that the Lord is patient with us. He wants all to repent and come to Him. But, there will be a day when He will judge the world in righteousness (Acts 17:30-31). Let’s read what the Bible tells us about Jesus when He comes to judge the earth and take it back once and for all.
- Read Revelation 19:11-16.
- Talk about it.
- Tell me some things about the rider of the white horse.
- What were some names of the rider of the horse? (verses 11, 13, 16)
- Who is the rider of the horse? Jesus
- The Bible tells us that God gave Jesus the authority to judge. (John 5:22-30) If we reject what God says and do not receive Jesus as King and Lord, we will be judged. (John 12:44-50) Because of this, we are encouraged to repent (turn from our ways and turn to God’s ways) because God has determined a day in which “He [God] will judge the world in righteousness through a Man [Jesus] He has appointed” (Acts 17:30-31).
- We read that not only will He judge, but He will also wage war.
- Who is the war against? (Revelation 19:19-20:3)
- Read Revelation 17:14 to know what the outcome will be.
- Who wins?
- Pray (aloud). Thank God for sending Jesus to save us from the punishment of our sin. Thank Him for being patient with us to repent. Ask Him to help your kids understand His great love for them, but also that they would understand the seriousness of going our own way instead of obeying Him. Thank Him for being Faithful and True, and pray that your kids will give their lives to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Thank Him that He is/will be the winner of the war!
Day 4-He Is Coming Quickly
- Pray.
- Practice the memory verse.
- Have someone be “The Boss”. The Boss will point to one person. When he/she points to a person, that person has to start the memory verse. After a few words, The Boss will point to someone else to say the rest of the verse. Take turns so everyone gets to be The Boss.
- What are some things we have learned about Jesus this week?
- Read Revelation 22:7, 12-16.
- Talk about it.
- What does Jesus say about Himself in this passage?
- If Jesus says He is coming quickly, what do we need to do? (see verses 7 & 14 for help)
- Washing robes means having been forgiven of sins/cleansed by the blood of the Lamb (1Peter 1:18-19)
- For more on being ready for when Jesus comes, read Mark 13:33-37.
- Let’s read the last words in the Bible: Revelation 22:20-21.
