About

My name is Katy Geist. I am a wife to Nate and mom to three kids ages 8, 6, and 4. I spend my days cooking, cleaning, homeschooling (part-time), and playing with the kids.

My Story

A few years ago when my kids were all very young, a lady from my church mentioned to a group of new moms how important it is to read the Bible with our kids. Bible storybooks are wonderful and definitely have their place, but we also need to be reading to them from the Bible. It is GOD’S WORD and is living and active (Hebrews 4:12), and it is written in such a way that even the young can understand what it says.

My kids love hearing stories from the Bible every morning as we eat breakfast. We are able to start our day focusing on what is true and right (Philippians 4:8). But the Truth we read isn’t just for the morning. What we read leads to other conversations later in the day. For the kids, reading God’s Word has helped to calm fears, to know how to handle conflict and struggles, and it has given them wonderful examples to follow. For my husband and I, we are able to use what we read to guide the discipline and training of our children. Many times we’ve seen God use the passage we read to help with a situation we are dealing with. Having a real-life example from the Bible is a great way to illustrate what we are trying to impress upon our kids.

We are so very fortunate in the U.S. to have an all-access pass to the Truth in God’s Word. So many nations and people do not have a Bible or are not even allowed to learn about Jesus. I am so guilty of wasting my time and resources when it comes to studying, memorizing, and applying God’s Word. I pray that God will raise up our generation of moms and dads to realize that we must use the time we have with our kiddos to teach them about the Lord, to hide His Word in our hearts, and to love Him with all that we are. The words God gave Moses to give to the Israelites are just as important for us to hear today:

“And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7
